A House To Keep

Image
Drama: "A House To Keep" (Dtcab.com, 2020) As the school year ends, this will (hopfully) be the last AP that I do in quarantine.  Despite difficulty, my class and I have worked rigorously through several production scripts including A Dolls House, The Taming Of The Shrew, and A Raisin In The Sun! We had two field experience guests come and speak to us. The first was Ragina Holoway and the second was Joel Hamernick. Unfortunately I was unable to be in class for Ms Holoway but I was able to be there for the interview of Mr Hamernick. He spoke to us about the history concerning ARITS (A Raisin In The Sun), how he lives near their original house, history of red lining, and exactly what it meant for them to be moving into this white neighborhood. In this action project we were asked to make a letter for Walter from one of the other characters, I chose Beneatha. Some writing was done intentionally for character speech purposes.    Dear Walter, I know I don't write ...

"Blood Eye"

In my second class during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, we studied doctors vs healers, oaths, cell theory, cell anatomy, conic sections, surgery types, and we had two different online interviews. We had challenges due to purely online learning, but we tried our hardest to make it work the best we could. For this action project, we were asked to research a surgery and construct a presentation on it including an interview, small history of cells, and the potential outcomes of said surgery. The surgery of my choice is called a Vitrectomy; A removal of liquid from the eye.

Drama in "Love"

In troubling times, we must persist; In this case my class and I continued to work through class online with other schools. Specifically in this class, Drama, we studied plays, historical gender inequality, Shakespeare, and finally poem writing. For the most part we read through Shakespeare's, Taming of the shrew. For this action project, we were asked to write a sonnet; A poem, consisting of 14 verses, divided in 3 Quatrains and one couplet, and following an Iambic Pentameter. In this sonnet, I am addressing Lucentio and his relationship with Bianca throughout most of the production.  Scalding Lucentio Lucentio, inspired me to write. How I hate the way you Court and coerce, Invading her mind day and through the night, Methinks you need to be taught through a verse. Let me compare you to a bad cherry? You won’t countenance her choices freely “If she had no spirit to resist” Carry! You seem like a meacock to a freesea. How do I hate you? Let me count T...

Second Final Presentation!

Image
As spring break approaches, so does final presentations for this term. With “guiding questions” (or GQs) as the theme, all students were asked to form their own guiding question relating to a class, unit, or project they have worked on this term. I chose “How can questions change the world?” as my guiding question, relating to the first unit of my class Forbidden Books. In this unit we studied Socrates and the Socratic Method, that is what my question is based on. To get into this project first, I think an introduction to the Socratic Method is in order. In the BC era, during the life of/created by the Athenian philosopher Socrates, was the Socratic Method. The basic definition is that it is a "method of inquiry and instruction" but to describe it, I would say its a way of asking questions to find your true meaning. That may sound complicated but its really just a positive way of questioning a person’s beliefs and/or morals; When you ask the how and whys of a perso...

The Giver Being Taken

The Big Sad: Simplified

Image
In the latest unit of my class Disease, called “Mind” my class and I have studied mental disorders. We were asked to select one disorder and research it in more depth. I chose Dysthymia, a mild, long-lasting and/or recurring depression. It is a mood disorder that causes thoughts of hopelessness or suicide, lack of concentration, and can lead to other disorders like Major Depressive Disorder. Mostly this affects the Theta, Beta, and Gamma brain waves causing lack of sleep, lack of concentration, and amplifies intense emotions. Treatments would mostly include social interaction but negative interaction can make it worse. Katty Perry is a prime example when explaining that, quote: "I have had bouts of situational depression and my heart was broken last year because, unknowingly, I put so much validity in the reaction of the public, and the public didn’t react in the way I had expected to … which broke my heart,”. When being diagnosed the things looked for would include a long list th...

What Can I Give You?

In my class, Forbidden Books, the unit of study has been about dogma. The overall study has been on what dogma is and how it is portrayed. Before going any further, I should probably give a definition; Dogma is a belief or set of beliefs that are set out by a person or nation, seen to be true and factual. We have seen the applications of dogma in our field experiences: First, we were able to visit a Mosque to look at it from a religious standpoint, hearing the teachings of the Koran and how they affect the Muslim people. The second field experience we had was a visit to the “Women and Children's First” feminist library to hear about how dogma can be regulated, in the form of censorship. Now getting to the topic at hand, I was asked to make a podcast interview with a chosen character from my book and show their dogma and the dogma of the time period. The book had only one requirement: It has to have been banned at some point. I chose “The Giver” by Lois Lowry, as you can expect ther...
