"Im Fine"

In the final action project I will be posting from the first term of my junior year, I focused on the current topic of mental health in decline. Let me give more context; This unit has been full of ups, downs, and everything else. From interviews of potential alderman to reading about incorrect use of city funds to MLK and the freedom marches. The main focus with all of these topics was the influence and perspective of "op-eds". We started by talking to a man considered young when considering he tried to become to an alderman against a long-standing incumbent, his name, Ugo Okere. Ugo didn't appreciate the way his ward was being operated so he took it into his own hands to change for the better. We then reviewed an op-ed posted by Troy LaRaviere and looked at how op-eds are constructed. Probably the biggest thing we did though was meet in person for an FE to the memorial in Marquette Park, Chicago, for the freedom marches of 1965-6. With that very quick description of th

Two Sides Of The Shore

Well... I had an interesting term that's for sure. I had my longest ever unit in a class and now this was my shortest. In this unit for rhetoric we had a total of three classes. Though we didn't learn about many new concepts, we attempted to convert old ones to a new format. This is "RhetorART" an art piece done by yours truly in an attempt to represent a current world problem: Lack of clean water or water in general. But I cant leave it there and go into my artists statement because I haven't hit my teachers minimum word count for the intro, so to describe the project, my class was asked to create an art piece representing a major world issue and explain the rhetoric behind it. Two Shores, CH 2020   This piece was made with the intention of bringing more awareness to a lack of knowledge. The information that needs to be more widely recognized is that many people take most things for granted. Things like easily accessible food, electricity, freedom of speech and

The Icy Roads Ahead

Instead of a third unit we had an extended second unit to end the term; We made sure to use the extra time to the fullest. We filled our time studying a number of math and science concepts including speed conversions, derivative functions, Newtons laws, energy types, gear ratios, almost everything with circles and more. In the second unit we also studied bikes, how they work, what kinds there are, and made several FEs out of the study; We went to Earth Rider, a bikes shop on the north side. And met virtually with a Divvy representative. In both cases we were able to talk about bikes in completely different settings and scales. As we wrap up the term we were asked to design a bike for a specific person. I worked with a partner on this project who helped make the whole thing easier so go look at their blog post as well: (input Cs post). The first thing we did was identify our persona and their needs; 14 year old Karen lives in Bandff, Canada. She needs to make a 3 mile trip to school ev
