War Is The Mental State Of The World

Image
To end out my final term of junior year in humanities, this term we have been looking into policy but this unit it was specifically "war" policy. How legal (by constitutional standards) they are, why policies are made more rapidly during war, and what they may mean for the public. For the action project we need to write about a specific war policy and what effects it had in its war. So here is the "war" and a policy from it that I chose. In 1947 the "Cold War" between the US and Soviet Union had begun. It happened not long after the conclusion of WWII primarily due to the American fear of the spread of communism. There were  other reasons like nuclear power being new to the world and distrust between leaders but the main reason the public was ready to enter this cold war was fear. This "battle" of one-upping each other happened through out communist land and US/UN territories. It was fought by means of showing greater strength, hence "one-up...

City Re-Write

Hi! Helloo, (that was on purpose) welcome to the final AP from STEAM in my junior year.  This year has been a whirlwind of new worries, troubles, excitement and boredom. Specifically in STEAM equations have been the hardest and work projects (making things) have been the best. In my current AP I have both to do. As the class name suggests, (Urban Planning) I will be planning a new area in my neighborhood. Because there are many open lots around me, I chose these two lots next to each other to put a skate park.  Satellite Screenshot, CDH, 2021 When looking in Google Maps with satellite mode you see they are in a good location, being near a bus stop, school, small business, and train stop a few blocks away. As I got into skating this year, I realized there are many people who skate, many people who would want to learn and few places to do so. When I was explaining this to my mother, an active member of the community and community outreach, she said it would be a great idea...

"I Represent Myself"

I have never liked being misread, misunderstood, or misrepresented(EVER). This action project was perfect to explain that point because we are looking to make our voices heard. We were asked to find a piece of potential legislation that our representatives are looking at and advise them based on our opinions. When I look into certain decisions they can get complicated, whereas others should be no brainers. The piece I found feels as if it should be a no brainer with several contributing factors (this will be explained in the letter). I am addressing Illinois State Senate member Kimberly A. Lightford about an amendment going into the Children with Disabilities Article of the School Code (HB2748). The letter reads as follows: Hello Senator Lightford, I am a high school student from the city of Chicago that needs your help. I believe you and the Assignments Committee are looking at an amendment on the Children with Disabilities Article of the School Code labeled as “HB2748”...

Eco-Circuit

In the final weeks of my junior year at GCE, we worked as electricians. Through reading a book called "Devil In The White City" we got to talking about the worlds fair in which would win the lighting contract of it between Tesla and Edison. It was a fight through their inventions; Tesla with AC/ alternating current and Edison with DC/ direct current. When discussing the "War of Currents" our main focus would shift from the people to AC and DC to find each strength and weakness between them. Next thing we knew, our teacher had a means of letting us make circuits ourselves. This leads me into the main idea of this action project: to create a parallel circuit with three resistors(light bulbs) and several displays/ real world examples of it.    Slide 1: Slide one shows off the circuit laid out, making the fact that I'm using forks to link the resistors obvious.   Slide 2: With the unconventional way my circuit is set up it was difficult to show how I wanted the roo...

Support Line

In the first unit of my final junior year term, our primary focus has been on triangles and how they coincide with bridges. Before we get into the second half of the unit (Bridges) we need to look at triangles. First we already know about triangles right? Wrong. You know about how angles work in triangles or maybe the Pythagorean Theorem but have you heard of Sine, Cosine, and Tangent? I didn't either. But now, I went through the anguishing journey of finding Sine (Opp/Hypo) Cosine (Adj/Hypo) and Tangent (Opp/Adj) then we find out about Cosine Theta + Inverse Cosine and Sine Theta + Inverse Sine laws. We use all of these to find the angle and side values of any triangles. Soon after we started the talks of how in most large bridges triangles are a commonality. Triangles are used to give the most possible support to the structure while having the least possible dead space. Which leads me into my next (Point? Idea? Assignment?) thing; we (my class) were asked to create bridges out of...

Thoughtful, Thoughtless Actions

To end this term in my Humanities class "A Nations Argument" we leapt into studying the Constitution and Bill of Rights. This began with how the first settlements decided to create a union and branch away from Europe. That was made clear with the righting of the Constitution which being one, kept us looking at how syllogisms work. Next we looked at the amendments made in the Bill of Rights and people who have had their rights violated. In this action project we were instructed to find a part of the municipal code in our own city that we believe should be changed or "amended."   In my case I chose to pursue a topic that is quite hard to narrow down to one ordinance. In stead I am using an article as the inspiration and a related ordinance as an example.   City of Chicago Flier, 2020 The related ordinance is the "Woodlawn Housing Preservation Ordinance." This is an ordinance that wants to make sure housing prices, rent prices and relocation of residence wi...

Rain Time

This unit in the class "Light, Sound, and Time" we are finishing up the class and the term with time. Time is relative, and from what we know, we have only existed for an extremely brief period in the time of the universe. If all time was assimilated into one calendar year, the time we have existed only lasts the last minutes of the last month of the calendar. Time has been hard to grasp but as we advanced as a whole we have found ways to track time. That leads me into this action project, my class was asked to either create or update some way to tell time. Once we did so, we had to explain and advertise this in the form of a video. I decided to go with the Phil Swift approach for the video but then realized I'm not good at being excited so I decided to take after a favorite influencer of mine, Michael Reeves, as you will see. Please enjoy. (Credit to my friend LM for editing because I don't know how) So I was looking over the assignment given to me a few days ago to...
